UC Davis Shockwave Lab

The Earth and Planetary Sciences Shock Compression Laboratory at UC Davis, the department's newest and largest experimental facility when it opened in fall 2016. Its two light gas guns fire projectiles at up to 7 to 8 kilometers per second into rock and mineral samples, recreating pressures of many millions of atmospheres to study planetary impacts and the interiors of planets.
